Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Ley Notches Four Goals in Saints Loss at SUNY Brockport

A four-goal game from Neve Ley, a five-goal third quarter and a season-high 10 goals weren't enough for the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team, as they dropped a 12-10 decision to SUNY Brockport Tuesday evening in Brockport, N.Y.

The loss brings the Saints' overall record to 0-3 on the 2023-24 season, as they prepare for conference play on the upcoming weekend.

The game featured multiple momentum swings, the first of which went the Golden Eagles' way. They scored seven of the game's first nine goals to open up a significant 7-2 lead by the six-minute mark of the second quarter.

This Golden Eagles lead held until just before halftime, when Jessica LaPlaca scored her first-career Liberty League goal to shift momentum back into the Saints' direction heading into the break.

Ley then came out of halftime and made it 7-4 Brockport at 12:30 of the third, and Phoebe Spaeth followed it up with a goal of her own just under a minute later to make it a two-goal game.

Goals by captain Liz Evans and Ley tied the game, then Evans tallied her second of the contest from LaPlaca, and the Scarlet and Brown took an 8-7 lead with 50 seconds remaining – their first of the game.

The momentum then swung back to the home side in the fourth. The teams traded goals in the opening minutes of the fourth, then with the score at 9-8 St. Lawrence the Golden Eagles scored four of the next five goals to seal a late comeback win over the Saints.

Ley had five points in the contest, adding an assist in addition to her four goals. LaPlaca and Evans both checked in with three points each Ley's five shots led the team in that category, while Bella Hillman had four shots and first-year Phoebe Spaeth had three. Courtney Lynn had six saves in the contest.

St. Lawrence returns to action with their Liberty League opener Saturday, as Rensselaer visits Hall-Leet Stadium. The game is scheduled for 12 p.m.
