Saints Compete at Plattsburgh State, Post Strong Results

Quinn Sirgany's victory in the 600 and second place finish in the mile highlighted the St. Lawrence University women's track and field team's performance at Plattsburgh's Sprint/Field Meet Wednesday evening.

Sirgany had a strong finish in the mile, placing second in the event with a time of 5:41.08. Emma Rothe, Grace McDonough and Nora Graves took third, fourth and fifth respectively. The Binghamton, N.Y. native then won the 600 later in the evening, beating the field with a time of 1:54.21.

Saints head coach Kate Howard had many good things to say about her team's overall performance this week.

"We had a terrific competitive experience at today's mid-week meet," she said. "We turned in a handful of personal records, event wins, and season's best performances which all point us in a great direction as we head into the final portion of our season. I'm so proud of the progress we have made so far this season and I can't wait to see this group suit up again next week on our home turf at the SLU open."

Among the aforementioned personal records, Caroline Hines had a lifetime-best leap in the long jump, registering a 4.51m jump on her second attempt to register a new personal-best. It was the second-longest jump at the time she made it, and stayed that way until the end of the competition – the Canton, N.Y. native placed second overall, the highest placement of her collegiate career to date.

Lauryn Cruz finished third in the weight throw, launching her best throw of the evening on her final attempt – she had a throw of 11.30m. Her teammate, Emily Boswell, finished fourth in the event.

Boswell also had a strong finish in the shot put, placing third overall with a throw of 10.16m.

The Saints are competing in two meets this week. Now that the Plattsburgh competition has wound down, the rest of the Saints' roster will head to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the Fastrack National Invitational Friday morning in Staten Island, N.Y.
