Four Saints went 2-0 on the day as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team defeated Saint Michael's 9-0 on Thursday afternoon in the Newell Field House.
The Scarlet and Brown moved to 1-0 on the year in what was the first dual-match win for head coach
Tavis Rieger. The Purple Knights fell to 1-10 with the loss.
In doubles play, it was a clean sweep for the Saints, who won 8-0 in all three matches. At number one,
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and
Molly Jespersen defeated Emma Gredenhag and Molly Gannon, and then at number two,
Ariane Karera and
Yvette Karera took the win over Emma Posada and Natalie Meiler.
Elena Styliades and
Abigail Sicuranza rounded out the round defeating Shannon Jordan and Emily Winefield.
In singles play, Aksdal-Jansen earned her second win of the day taking on Gredenhag. The sophomore won the matchup 6-1, 6-0. Her doubles partner, Jespersen occupied the two spot and swept Gannon 6-0, 6-0.
At three and four, the Karera sisters both earned 6-0, 6-0 sweeps with Ariane defeating Jaylin Bedard at three, and Yvette winning over Posada.
At five,
Maya Stepic took on Meiler and took a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory. Then at six,
Meredith Macey took a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of her own over Lyla Rouleau.
The Scarlet and Brown will return to the Newell Field House on Saturday at noon to take on SUNY Oneonta.
