Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Four Saints Score as No. 8 Saints Defeat Syracuse, 4-2

Four different Saints scored, as the eighth-ranked St. Lawrence University women's hockey team defeated Syracuse 4-2 on Tuesday evening at Appleton Arena.

With the win, the Saints moved to 2-2-0 on the season, while the Orange fell to 2-1-0.

Claire Tyo put the Saints on the board first, as she went top shelf and beat Syracuse goaltender Allie Kelley for the 1-0 lead. Anna Segedi and Aly McLeod recorded assists on the play.

After the first period of play, St. Lawrence led 18-2 in shots on goal.

Just over nine minutes into the second, Syracuse evened the score with a power play goal from Tatum White after she capitalized on a scramble in front of Kassidy Lawrence.

Almost five minutes later, the Saints applied heavy pressure scoring three goals in under three minutes to build a 4-1 lead over the Orange.

McLeod added her second point of the night after she picked up her own rebound and beat Kelley to make it 2-1.

Kennedy Wilson scored next for the Scarlet and Brown tallying her first goal of the season. Katina Duscio turned the puck over in the neutral zone, which allowed Wilson to scoop up the puck and beat Kelley glove side, making it 3-1.

Kristina Bahl capped the scoring in the second frame with a rocket from the blue line on the power play for the 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

After the second period, SLU continued their heavy offensive efforts and led 36-7 in shots on goal.

The Orange tacked on a second goal to start the third period, as Bryn Saarela went high and beat Lawrence blocker side, making the score 4-2.

"I thought we had good jump especially coming off a big weekend vs. Ohio State," said head coach Chris Wells. "Kelley was excellent again vs. us in net and Syracuse played hard. We created some really good opportunities late in the second to get some separation and finished the game with some good possession in the third."

Lawrence finished with 13 saves for the Saints, while Kelley stopped 41 for Syracuse.

St. Lawrence went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Orange went 1-for-1. The Saints finished with a 45-15 shot advantage.

"It's hard to win in college hockey and tonight was a great example," Wells added. "We are starting to get some good chemistry with our lines and playing with good pace!"

The Saints will continue their five-game home stand, as they host No. 15 Mercyhurst for a two-game series this Friday and Saturday. Puck drop for both days is scheduled for 3 p.m.
