Two wins for Emma Palumbo and a victory for Charlotte Blake helped propel the St. Lawrence University women's track and field team to a first place finish at the St. Lawrence Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Newell Field House.
The win cements the Saints' position as one of the top-ranked teams in the Liberty League, having entered the weekend ranked No. 19 in the USTFCCCA's national track and field rating index.
"The meet's team scores came down to the final event, the 4x400m, which made for an extremely exciting team battle until the very end," said Saints head coach Kate Howard. "We're carrying great momentum and we're looking forward to building on the progress we've made so far this season."
That aforementioned 4x400m team consisted of Charlotte Blake, Hannah Bennett, Cameran Stone, and Carly Zack, as they clinched the meet's first place prize for the Scarlet and Brown by registering a time of 4:32:14.
Blake's contribution to the 4x400m, wasn't her only major result at the meet. She also hit both the AARTFC and Liberty League championship standard in a victory at the 3000m, crossing the finish line with a time of 10:25.49.
Palumbo won both the mile and 800m events with times of 5:20:61 and 2:26:73, respectively. Her times were also qualifying standards for the Liberty League championship.
Championship standards were also hit by the 3000m's second- and third-place finishers, Olivia Bernier and Hannah Bennett. The Saints took the top six positions in the 3000m event.
The Saints' noteworthy performances didn't stop on the track -- Lauryn Cruz recorded a distance of 11.42 in the weight throw, taking first place in that event with a new personal best.
Emily Boswell's 10.32m attempt gave her first place on the shot put, hitting the championship standard in the process.
The Saints will next be in action on Wednesday, Feb. 7 in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
