Women’s Hockey Falls to No. 4 Colgate in Exhibition Play

Kennedy Wilson scored her first goal of the season, as the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team battled fourth-ranked Colgate University in exhibition play on Laurentian Weekend, September 23.

The Raiders came up with a 4-1 win over the Saints, in their first showing of the 2023-24 season.

Wilson tipped an original shot from the slot by fifth-year transfer Mae Batherson to put the Scarlet and Brown up 1-0 with 15.7 seconds remaining in the first period.

Tessa Holk struck first for the Raiders with a goal at 2:11 of the second and was followed up by Neena Brick at 10:08, for the eventual game winner, allowing Colgate to build a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

Emma Pais added a third for the Raiders with a short-handed tally at 4:30 of the third and Kaitlyn O'Donohoe scored the fourth and final goal for Colgate.

"It's great to be back playing again," said head coach Chris Wells. "It was a very fast paced game against one of top teams in country. We certainly had plenty of great chances, but Colgate was able to execute on a few more of theirs than we were. However, we are happy to see the opportunities we had. Emma had a solid day in net playing the entire game. There is a lot to like as we have begun our season!"

St. Lawrence finished with a 35-31 advantage in shots, led by five shot attempts for Julia Gosling.

Emma-Sofie Nordström made 27 saves in her first full outing in Scarlet and Brown, while Hannah Murphy, Averill McCorkle and Kayle Osborne all shared time in goal for Colgate.

The Saints face a quick turnaround when they host Ottawa in a second exhibition game on Tuesday, September 26 at 6 p.m.
