Sophomore
John Hill-Edgar was able to win both his singles and doubles match, but the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team had to settle for a 7-2 loss to RPI on Saturday afternoon at the Sammis Tennis Courts.
The Scarlet and Brown fell to 5-7 on the year and 1-4 in conference play. RPI improved to 9-5 on their season and 5-1 in Liberty League play.
In doubles, Hill-Edgar teamed up with
Edvin Strandberg at number three to take on RPI's Bryce Burnham and Sid Srinivasan. The Scarlet and Brown duo came away with the narrow 8-7 (7-5) win. At number two,
Adam Heilbronner and
Broderick Pinto lost a close match 8-7 (8-6) against Abraham Yohannes and Igor Visnevskij.
In singles, Heilbronner and Hill-Edgar both went to three-set matches, but Hill-Edgar was the only Saint to claim a win. He too on Visnevskij and won the opening set 6-1. After dropping the second set, the Saints sophomore won the deciding set 7-6 (7-1).
St. Lawrence will play their third match of the weekend tomorrow at the Sammis Tennis Courts against Bard. The final home match will also serve as senior day for the members of the Class of 2023.
