In a matchup that came down to the final match, the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team came up short falling 5-4 to union on Friday afternoon in Schenectady, N.Y.
The Saints fell to 5-6 on the year and 1-3 in Liberty League action. Union improved to 5-7, and 3-3 in conference play.
The Scarlet and Brown would earn just one win in doubles putting them down 2-1. At number two,
Adam Heilbronner and
Broderick Pinto took on Aidan O'Brien and Seth Prusko and came away with an 8-5 win.
Heilbronner earned his second win of the day at number two singles taking down Dimitris Binopoulos 1-6, 6-1, 6-2, but the team went down 4-2 with losses at one and three. Pinto at four and
Cole Hamilton at number five kept St. Lawrence in the match with wins. Pinto took his match 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) against O'Brien, while Hamilton took down Ian Schunk 6-3, 6-2.
In the deciding match,
John Hill-Edgar took the opening game 7-6 (10-8) against Thomas McGuire but would drop the next two as Union claimed the match.
The Saints will head home and be on short rest as they play host to RPI in their penultimate home match of the season tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
