Meredith Rose continued her hot hitting in the St. Lawrence University softball teams games against Tufts and Gustavus Adolphus on Tuesday afternoon on their Florida Trip. The outfielder had three hits and two RBI as the Saints lost both.
Tufts 13, St. Lawrence 4
In the opening game of the day, undefeated Jumbos scored four in the top of the first.
Stella VanGee had a lead-off walk, and Rose singled to right field which moved her to third. VanGee scored on a passed ball to put the Saints on the board.
Tufts scored three more in the top of the second, and got the first two Saints.
Zola Braswell worked a walk and
Tori Rotundo slapped the ball to left to put two on. VanGee singled through the right side to load the bases.
Vivian Johnson hit a soft ball to the pitcher, who threw the ball home but Braswell slid around the tag and made it 7-2. Rose kept the rally going with a single to left to score VanGee and Rotundo to close the gap to three.
After four scoreless innings, Tufts scored six in the top of the seventh, and the Saints were unable to respond.
Sofia Berryhill gave up just six hits against a team averaging over 12 per game. First-year
Layne Fritz relieved for one and two thirds, and
Jacee Casebolt closed for the final out.
St. Lawrence 0, Gustavus Adolphus 4
In game two, Gustavus Adolphus scored three through three innings. The Saints best chance at scoring came in the top of the fourth.
Margo Hopper reached on an error, stole second, and took third on an error from the catcher. The Golden Gusties came up with three outs and left the catcher stranded on third. Gustavus Adolphus scored once more in the bottom of the fifth, and the final read 4-0.
The Saints fall to 0-8, while Tufts improves to 8-0 and Gustavus Adolphus is 4-5. The Saints return to Legends Field on March 23
rd after an off day to face Middlebury and Trinity starting at 9 a.m.
