Downs, Adamson, Syroka Earn League Accolades

St. Lawrence University men's basketball head coach Chris Downs and his assistants Paige McCormick, Mark Bickelhaupt, and Tom Miller were selected as the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year, as chosen by the league's head coaches and announced on Tuesday morning. In addition, senior Trent Adamson earned First-Team All-Liberty League honors, while junior Trey Syroka earned Second-Team All-Liberty League honors.

This is the sixth time Downs and his staff have earned Coaching Staff of the Year, and his first since the 2018-19 season. Downs, the longest tenured coach in the conference, has amassed 373 wins while leading the Saints, and this season marks his 16th post-season appearance.

Adamson led the league in field goal percentage, averaging 56-percent on the season while scoring 13.3 points per game. He leads the league in blocked shots with 36, and grabs 6.4 rebounds per game, which is seventh in the conference. Adamson the 2019 Rookie of the Year, and earned Second-Team honors last season.

Syroka led the league in steals, and was second in assists. The true-point guard has come up with a school record 73 steals this season, while dishing out 4.3 assists per game. His 1.98 assist to turnover ratio is fourth in the conference. Syroka was named Most Outstanding Player as the Saints won the 2023 Liberty League men's basketball championship.

The pair both play critical roles in the Saints' zone that holds teams to 60.7 points, 10th in the country, and 39.4-percent shooting, second in the league.

"We are so excited for Trent and Trey," said head coach Chris Downs. "The entire team has worked hard and we all realize individual awards are only bestowed upon players who have great teammates. I'm proud of this entire group."

The team have won their last eight games and head to New Jersey to face the University of Mary Washington in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 3rd at 4 p.m.
