Alli Sibold and
Olivia Watson each earned third place finishes to lead the St. Lawrence University women's track and field team on the first day of the Liberty League Championship meet on Friday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.
Sibold ran a flat-track personal best in the mile, finishing in 5:09.27. She passed a pair of runners in the final lap to move up from fifth and cross in third. Teammate
Emma Palumbo also podiumed for the Scarlet and Brown, finishing eighth in 5:12.41.
Watson ran a personal best in the 5,000 meters, and
Katherine Sheehy was just behind her in fourth. The pair ran in lock step for 24 laps, and Watson had the quicker close to cross in 18:24.09, less than three second ahead of Sheehy.
First-year
Kaylee Bertini finished sixth in the pentathlon. She cleared the highest bar in high jump (1.51m) and finished fifth in the long jump (4.74m) and 60-meter hudles (10.05). She had personal bests in the high jump, long jump, 60-meter hurdles, and the 800 meters.
The final podium finishers of the first day was the distance medley relay team.
Cameran Stone ran the opening 1,200 meters,
Alexis Parent ran the 400 meters,
Nora Graves ran the 800 meters, and
Eliza O'Donnell anchored with a mile, and the four finished in 13:23.96 for fifth place.
"We had an exciting day one of the Liberty League Championships with lots of lifetime personal best performances," said head coach
Kate Howard. "Across the events, almost all of our team members stepped up to outperform their pre-championship projections which gives us great momentum heading into day two."
After day one of the championship meet the St. Lawrence women are fourth out of eight with 25 points. The meet concludes on Saturday with events starting at 11 a.m.
