Zachary Jaworski won both throw events, and
Nick Lyndaker won the 800 meters and the mile to lead the St. Lawrence University men's track and field teams on Saturday afternoon in Newell Field House.
Jaworksi hit a pair of personal bests. First in the weight throw when he tossed the implement 15.40 meters on his second throw. Then in the shot put he had a 32cm personal best, winning with a 14.12 meter-throw.
Joseph O'Rourke finished second in both events, and
Tito Bowens took third in the shot.
In the mile,
Michael Skutt led for seven laps, and Lyndaker closed the final lap in 29.88 seconds to get the win in 4:20.00. Skutt finished second in 4:22.04. Both were personal bests and regional qualifiers. Lyndaker ran another collegiate best in the 800 meters, taking the win in 2:00.50.
Â
Owen Patry won the 5,000 meters in a collegiate best time of 16:11.10. He and
Colin Young paced each other for over two miles until Patry started to pull ahead. Young took second in 16:24.85.
Connor St. Peter won the pole vault when he cleared 2.60 meters, a .35 meter best.
Shifan Shaffe won the 400 meters. He got out in 25.77 seconds in the opening lap and held on to finish in 53.85 seconds.
The Scarlet and Brown took both relays. Carles Gartner,
Cameron Dillard,
Keith Omane-Agyei, and
Carlos Sanchez won the 4x200 in 1:39.88, while
Cole Harris,
Matthew Coleman,
Christopher O'Donnell, and
Ryan Steele won the 4x400 in 3:50.18.
"I'm pumped for Zach breaking 14 meters in the shot today," said head coach
John Newman. "That's been a target of his, and he's worked very hard to see these big improvements each week in both shot and weight. Mike and Nick ran great efforts in the mile to improve their PRs there. I wasn't necessarily expecing faster times in the mile today but both of them continue to impress me each week so I'm not too surprised. We had a few guys try different events this week like Geier in the 60 dash instead of the hurdles. This also opened the door for Keith to lead the Saints this week in the hurdles and lower his PR for that event. First-year guys keep improving as they get used to some of the college events, which is also exciting."
The Saints travel to Plattsburgh for a Sprint/Field meet on Wednesday February 8th, and to Staten Island on the 10th for the
Fastrack National Invitational.
