Women's Tennis Opens Season At Mary Hosking Invitational

The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team combined for 22 wins between singles and saw at least one member of the team advance to the semifinals in each of the flights as the Scarlet and Brown opened their season at the Mary Hosking Invitational hosted by William Smith in Geneva, N.Y. on Saturday.

In Flight A Singles, Catherine Gamble advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-4 win over Audrey Camacho, then advanced to the semifinals with an 8-4 win over Union's Gracie Nicol. Gamble will take on Kirsten Auble in the semifinal round tomorrow.

In the B flight, Molly Jespersen and Caitlyn Avery each made quick work of their opponents with Jespersen winning 8-0 and Avery winning 8-1. Jespersen advanced in the Quarterfinal round with an 8-4 win and will face Lauren Rodriguez in the Semifinals.

In the C flight, Meredith Macey and Maya Stepic took home 8-0 and 8-2 wins respectively, yjrn took home 8-7, and 8-3 wins to advance to the semifinals. Macey will take on Neha Dania, while Stepic will face Rebecca Andrews.

In the D flight, the trio of Elena Styliades, Abigail Sicuranza, and Gabriella Dadoly each won their matches 8-2 to advance. Styliades and Sicuranza would move on with 8-2 and 8-4 wins respectively in the Quarterfinals to advance.

At A Doubles, Avery and Angelica Aksdal-Jansen took an 8-3 win to advance, while Gamble and Jespersen also advanced with an 8-0 win. Gamble and Jespersen won their Quarterfinal matchup 8-0 as well to advance to tomorrow's Semifinal.

In the B flight of Doubles, The duos of Styliades/Dadoly, Macey/Stepic, and Sicuranza/Alexandra Fuller all advanced to the Quarterfinals. In the next round, Styliades and Dadoly advanced with an 8-5 win, while the other two pairs faced off against one another. Sicuranza and Fuller got the best of their teammates 8-6 to move onto the Semifinals.

The Scarlet and Brown will get back to work tomorrow in day two of the Mary Hosking Invitational.
