Box Score Catherine Gamble earned two wins on the day to lead the Saints, but the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team's comeback bid fell short losing to No. 4-seeded Ithaca 5-3 on Friday afternoon in the Liberty League Championship First Round at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University.
St. Lawrence saw their season end at an 8-8 overall record, while the Bombers improved to 13-6 and advance in the Championship with the victory.
In doubles, the Bombers took the lead on the day winning two of the three matchups. Of the three, the first two went to Ithaca, before the number two doubles wrapped up in favor of St. Lawrence. At number two, Gamble and
Elena Styliades teamed up to take on Zoe Davis and Eliana Chelnick and took the win 8-6.
In singles, the Scarlet and Brown claimed the lead as Gamble and
Caitlyn Avery each secured two-set wins. At number one, Gamble took on Taylor Crain and won decisively 6-3, 6-1. Then at number two, Avery took on Lauren Rodriguez and won handily 6-0, 6-1 to give the Saints the 3-2 lead.
Ithaca tied the match up with a win at number six, which left the match up to the number three, four, and five slots, two of which went to a winner-take-all third set.
The Bombers ended up securing the win as Ithaca took a win in three sets at the number four spot and secured a hard-earned win at number three as the second set went to a tiebreaker.
The Scarlet and Brown saw their season come to an end with an 8-8 overall record.
