Saints, Martin Top Oneonta for First Win

Senior Isabel Silvia scored four goals and four other member of the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team scored twice, to lead the Saints and first-year head coach Chelsea Martin to their first win of season, topping SUNY Oneonta 18-8 on Saturday afternoon at North Country Field.

Silvia also added one assist, two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Laura Wells, Jacqui Cloutier, Rachel Burke and Morgan Arakelian each scored two goals apiece and added at least one assist. Maggie Green led the Saints' defensive game with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

"It was a great team effort and win all around," said Martin. "The energy and enthusiasm was felt by all throughout the entirety of the game. The team exemplified the hard work they put in throughout preseason and bought it to the field today."

The Saints struck first on a goal from Wells off a feed from Arakelian. Silvia and Cloutier added goals, before the Red Dragon's got on the board with a goal from Megan Foiles for a 3-1 lead in favor of the Scarlet and Brown.

St. Lawrence closed the first quarter with a 4-1 lead and tacked on five goals in the second frame to head into halftime with a 9-2 advantage.

The Saints came out firing in the second half, scoring six straight goals to build a 15-2 lead over the Red Dragons.

SUNY Oneonta managed to score five goals in the fourth quarter, but were unable to mount a comeback over the Saints.

Liz Evans, Neve Ley, Bella Hillman, and Susan Hartgers all scored their first collegiate goals for the Scarlet and Brown in today's win.



Foiles led SUNY Oneonta with four goals, while Rachel Morris scored three, picked up four ground balls and added two caused turnovers.

Raelynn Bovenzi made three saves and recorded the win, while Paige Glasgow and Courtney Lynn also made appearances in net for the Scarlet and Brown. Courtney Gallagher made seven saves for Red Dragons.

St. Lawrence outshot Oneonta 32-13, and held an edge in the ground ball game 20-18. The Saints also capitalized on three man-up opportunities.

The Saints moved to 1-0 on the season, while SUNY Oneonta fell to 0-2.

St. Lawrence will host Oswego State on Tuesday, March 8 at 4 p.m.
