The St. Lawrence women's basketball team beat William Smith 69-48 on Friday afternoon in Geneva, N.Y. to complete the season sweep.
Ava McCann had 19 points and
Katie Frederick had 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort.
The teams were even at 29 at the half time break, and opened the second half exchanging buckets. Brooke Jarvis broke the deadlock by hitting a 3-pointer for the Herons. The Saints scored the next dozen points, and held William Smith scoreless over the next seven and a half minutes. A Maddie Patrick jumper stopped the Heron drought, but
Olivia Middleton immediately answered and after three quarters the Saints led 47-38.
William Smith came out on a 5-to-1 run to cut the lead to 48-43.
Katie Frederick hit a trio of free throws and
Shannon Rhone drained a jumper to extend it back to double digits. Olivia Parisi made three the old fashion way to get it back to single digits, but St. Lawrence went on another 12-0 run to lead by 19 with under two minutes to play. The Saints held on for the 69-48 win.
"With a diminished lineup, we had some big performances by our players," said head coach
Dan Roiger. "We played a great game defensively in the second half and shot the ball well. It really was a nice win for us with three potential starters out again. Our younger players are playing some big minutes and making good contributions for us."
McCann hit three shots from deep on her way to 19 points. Frederick's 18 point, 15 rebound performance was her thirteenth double-double in 17 games.
Jarvis and Olivia Parisi each scored 16 each for the Herons. Lauren DeVaney came down with 10 rebounds.
In the second half, the Saints shot over 42-percent from the floor, and held William Smith to under 22-percent.
The Saints grabbed five more boards and hit nine more free throws.
