Game Recap: Volleyball |

Tigers Top Saints 3-0

RIT used early runs in each set that the St. Lawrence University volleyball team could not come back from, and the Tigers won in straight sets on Friday night in Burkman Gymnasium.

In the first set, RIT took an early 11-2 lead. RIT successfully earned every side out possible, and closed with five-straight points to win 25-8.

In the second set the Tigers led 6-2, but the Saints tied it at eight apiece. RIT broke the tie with five straight, and then went on a 10-point run to lead 23-10. The St. Lawrence went on a mini-run, with kills from Berit Brecke and Julia Giroux, but a service error gave RIT the set 25-13.

Five-straight Tiger points opened the third set, they later led 15-3, and 20-6. Giroux had consecutive kills, and Lainey Roman serviced an ace for a St. Lawrence run. RIT's Liv Benard had four kills on the next five points and the Tigers completed the sweep with a 25-11 set win.

Mattie Porter did the lion's share of the setting and finished with 19 assists. Giroux had a dozen kills for the Saints, and Vivian Zymeck had eight digs.

Benard led the Tigers with 16 kills, and Sydney Neff had 27 assists.

Head coach Shelly Roiger
"Tonight was a good old fashioned tail kicking. RIT dominated in every area and their serving, blocking, and side out percentage had us in panic mode the entire night. We were out performed in all touches so without question, RIT deserved that victory. We had a very unfocused warm up and, not surprisingly, we played that way as well. We didn't come ready to compete and we did a poor job of executing the game plan. There were a lot of controllables that could have been done better by us today but there is no doubt that RIT's dominance had something to do with what was going on our side of the net. We travel tomorrow to Middlebury to face Bowdoin and Middlebury and we know things won't get any easier. We will be much more focused and I'm confident we will compete better. We know these two opponents will help prepare us for our conference matches next week and we'll learn and grow from this challenging weekend."

Records: St. Lawrence (5-11, 1-3 LL), RIT (7-13, 2-1 LL)
