Maggie Green scored her third goal of the season as the St. Lawrence University field hockey team lost 2-1 to the Union Dutchwomen on Sunday afternoon.
The Dutchwomen had the best chance of the opening 15 minutes, nearly converting a penalty corner, but
Molly Lake made a goal-line stop to keep the first quarter scoreless. Two minutes into the second quarter Union used a series of short passing to cut through the Saints' defense and Grace Krebs hit a one-timer into the cage.
Five minutes into the second half the Saints found their equalizer. Off a penalty corner,
Morgan Misiaszek passed short to
Maggie Green who settled the ball into the crease and shot hard and low. The ball deflected off a Union stick into the back of the net.
Just before the end of the third quarter, a Dutchwomen sent a bouncing ball towards the net, that reached Emily Dawson who was camped out in front of the goal and redirected it in.
With 90 seconds to play the Saints earned another penalty corner, and the ball eventually fell to
Anna Coyne who was covering the far post, but she was denied the game tying goal and Union held on to win 2-1.
Lucy Adiutori finished with four saves in her hour tending goal. Lake finished with three defensive saves.
In an even match, Union led 9-8 in shots on goal, and the Saints had nine penalty corners to Union's six.
Green leads the Saints with 10 points on the season, coming from three goals and four assists. Misiaszek recorded her second assist on the year.
