Six different Saints hit the scoresheet, as the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team won its fourth straight game, with a 6-2 win over Dartmouth on Friday evening in Hanover, New Hampshire.
Skylar Podvey stripped the puck from the Big Green offense and sent the puck back to Gout at the Dartmouth blue line. Gout skated in and sent a low shot from the right circle right past Dartmouth goaltender Maggie Emerson to open scoring put the Saints up 1-0, just one minute and 13 seconds into the first period.
The Scarlet and Brown worked to increase their lead as Chloe Puddifant fed the puck to
Rachel Teslak in the slot. Teslak fired a rocket and
Abby Hustler scored on the deflection for the 2-0 lead on the power play at 9:22.
Just 41 seconds later, the Big Green responded and closed the gap to one. Georgia Kraus's initial shot was blocked, but Gabby Billing was right behind to pick up the rebound and the goal at 10:01.
After one period of play, the Saints held an 11-10 edge in shots.
Hustler nearly put the Saints up 3-1 off a turn-around shot on the doorstep, but Emerson sent the rebound straight to
Kristina Bahl, Bahl fired a shot from the left circle, which was redirected by
Aly McLeod for her ninth goal of the season and the 3-1 lead.
Saints' goaltender
Lucy Morgan kept the Big Green off the board, as she shutdown Sydney Herrington on a one-on-one chance with 8:17 to play in the second frame.
And it was
Nara Elia that looked to keep the scoring action going, but the play was waved off and a penalty shot was awarded in favor of the Saints, following the play. Puddifant went for the low shot from the left side, but Emerson made the stop, keeping the game at 3-1.
Teslak tallied her second assist of the game, as she intercepted the puck at the blue line. The deflection made it to the stick of
Hillary Sterling, who went top-shelf, through the screen for the 4-1 lead with 1:38 to play in the second.
With 14:44 remaining,
Shailynn Snow carried the puck into the zone and found
Sophie Holden, who gave St. Lawrence a 5-1 lead. Just about a minute and a half later, Elia picked up the puck from Gout, drew Emerson to the far side of the net and scored to make it 6-1.
"Once again we were able to get on the board early and that helped us get our legs," said head coach
Chris Wells '92. "We found our stride in the second and scored some pretty goals. We continued the solid play in the third and finished the game strong! Winning on the road is tough in this league and we are happy with the three points tonight."
