Saints Fall to RIT, 3-0

The St. Lawrence volleyball team lost in three-straight sets to RIT on Friday afternoon in Canton, New York.

Natalie Piper led the Saints with 11 kills, while Annika Kreppein, Courtney Benson, and Vivian Zymeck all added five.

The Saints led 13-10 in the first set before the Tigers went on a six-point run, which included two kills from Katie Hobler. St. Lawrence was able to keep it tight, down just 21-22, but Hobler had another pair of kills to set up set point, and the Tigers closed the set 25-22.

The Saints led 13-10 again in the second set, but RIT scored nine of the next ten points to take control and won set two 25-16.

In the third set, RIT had set point at 24-22, but the Saints clawed back to have set point of their own at 25-24, and again at 26-25. The Tigers scored the next three points to take the set 28-26.

"RIT is an excellent team and we were just outsized and outperformed in every position," said head coach Shelly Roiger. "They run a fast paced, high octane offense and there were several great plays by their defense so I give them a lot of credit. We had opportunities with leads late in sets 1 and 3 and both times we just didn't execute with the precision that we needed to. Today's match was definitely one of missed opportunities. We'll be able to look at the film and see one contact, not an entire play, but one contact that if executed better, swings the pendulum in our direction and pushes the match to at least four sets."

Piper added five service aces and 11 digs to the Saints' cause. Allie Posnick had 21 assists and seven digs.

Hobler's 14 kills led the Tigers, and Taylor Higgins and Cat Vento added 13 and seven, respectively. Sydney Neff had 37 assists, and Kiana Walker led the defense with 16 digs.

Records: St. Lawrence (6-7, 0-2), RIT (12-2, 2-0)
