Lillian Sullivan and Catherine Gamble led the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team with first-round wins in the singles draw on Saturday at the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament at William Smith College in Geneva, New York.

"I thought we did a great job of competing this weekend," said head coach Neil Caniga "The ITA's are always a step up in competition, but I thought we played well and learned a lot from the experience."

The Saints had four players compete in the singles draw and sent three doubles teams to the regional event. In addition to Sullivan and Gamble, Rachel Caplan, Meredith Macey, Gabriella Dadoly, Emily Harris, and Elena Styliades competed in the regional.

Sullivan advanced to the second round after defeating Shreya Mandalapu 6-4, 6-3 in the first round, while her teammate Gamble won her matchup 6-2, 6-4 over Zoe Davis of Ithaca. Caplan was in the closest match of the first round going three sets with Elyse Duley of Vassar. Caplan ended up falling 1-6, 6-2, 10-4 in the match

In the second round, Sullivan took on Carol Plakk of NYU and lost 6-0, 6-0, while Gamble lost 6-1, 6-1 to Chantel Thongphok of Skidmore.
