Kathleen Merchant had three top-four performances, and her twin sister
Kimberly Merchant had two to lead the St. Lawrence University women's outdoor track and field team at the Redhawk Capstone Meet at Roberts Wesleyan on Friday.
Kathleen Merchant was second in the javelin with a throw of 37.59 meters and posted a third-place finish in the shot put with a personal best performance of 12.80 meters, an improvement of 25 centimeters over her previous best at last week's Liberty League West Championships at the University of Rochester. She added a fourth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 37.46 meters.
Kimberly Merchant finished one place ahead of Kathleen in the discus, posting a personal best in the event with a 39.01-meter throw, an improvement of 30 centimeters. She also posted a breakthrough throw in the javelin with a mark of 35.83 meter, a 3.92-meter improvement on her personal best to finish in fourth place.
The Merchant sisters hit All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championships qualifying standards in all of their events.
Isabel Caprood also had a top-10 performance for the Saints, finishing in sixth place in the 100-meter hurdles.
Olivia Watson had a personal-best performance in the 1,500, cutting more than four seconds off her time to finish in 5:06.56).
Billie McClosky cut more than 15 seconds off her time from last month in the same event to finish in 5:08.25.
No team scores were kept at the meet.
