Saints Defeat Skidmore on Senior Day

Senior Kylie Murphy and sophomores Rachel Burke and Charlotte Powell each scored four goals to lead the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team to an 18-11 win over Skidmore in Liberty League play on senior day, Friday afternoon at North Country Field.

Burke also recorded three assists and picked up one ground ball, while Murphy notched an assist. Isabel Silvia recorded three goals and an assist and three draw control wins, while Morgan Arakelian finished with two goals and two assists and Malia MacDonald scored once. Jacqui Cloutier and Liz Evans both won five draw controls, while Caroline Cloutier and Laura Wells each caused two turnovers.

The Saints jumped out to an early 6-2 lead over Skidmore in just over the first 15 minutes of play and after trading goals with the Thoroughbreds the Saints held a 8-4 lead at halftime.

Skidmore tallied back-to-back goals, bringing the game within two to start the second half, but the Saints responded with two of their own, as Murphy scored her 11th of the season and Burke scored her third of the game, raising the score to 10-6.

Madelyn Marr tacked on a goal for Skidmore but the Scarlet and Brown went on a three-goal run, with two goals from Silvia, making it 13-7 with just over 20 minutes to play.

Grace Connerty scored three goals for Skidmore and the Saints added five more down the stretch for the win.



"Today we had a great day celebrating our seniors," said head coach Hannah Corkery '11. "It was a great day for St. Lawrence lacrosse and I am very proud of everyone. We're excited about the way we played and how we kept our momentum and we are looking forward to seeing Skidmore tomorrow."

Connerty led Skidmore with six goals and five draw control wins, while Amelia Bassett finished with three goals and three assists.

Saints' goalkeeper Courtney Lynn made seven saves, while Cate Spaulding made five in a relief effort for the Thoroughbreds.

St. Lawrence held a 23-18 advantage in shots on goal and improved to 3-3 on the season and 2-3 in conference play, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 2-3 and 0-3.

The Saints will face Skidmore in the regular-season finale tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in Saratoga Springs.
