The 20th-ranked St. Lawrence University women's squash team were able to win the top-three spots, but it was not enough as the Scarlet and Brown fell 5-4 to 14th-ranked Middlebury College on Sunday afternoon at the Robie Squash Courts.

"The women had some opportunities today to come close to Middlebury," said head coach Scott Denne "We had strong wins from our top-three and encouraging improvement from new players. The mid-order gives us the chance to hopefully come closer next time we play. We are looking forward to new matches after the break."

Anannya Morey had the shortest match of the top-three as she swept her match against Ideal Dowling. Morey won her sets 11-8, 13-11, 11-3 as she continues to impress in the No. 1 spot for the Saints.

Captains Sanna Koivumäki (No. 2) and Makyla Kelley (No. 3) had a bit more work to do as they each went to five sets in their matches.

Koivumäki lost the first set of her match against Gwen Davis, but roared back to take the second and third sets and the 2-1 lead. The captain dropped the next set to bring the matchup to even, then emphatically won the fifth set 11-5 to take the match.

Kelley started her match hot winning the first two sets 12-10 and 11-7, but Middlebury's Abby Holding counterattacked to win the next two sets. The captain came up clutch with a 12-10 win to take the No. 3 matchup.

The Scarlet and Brown will get a bit of a break before heading on the road on Friday, December 3rd to take on Colgate College in Hamilton, N.Y. The match is slated to start at 5:00 p.m.
