The St. Lawrence women's basketball team topped Plattsburgh State 83-41 in Burkman Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Katie Frederick recorded her third double-double in as many games with 10 points and 10 rebounds, going a perfect 4-for-4Â from the field and 2-for-2Â from the free throw line.
Olivia Barringer led the Saints in scoring with 18, and
Abby Doin and
Sierra Sanson both scored 10 off of the bench.
Plattsburgh came out in a full court press that St. Lawrence was able to break, and stifling defense from the Saints held the Cardinals to just four first-quarter points. The second quarter was more of the same, and St. Lawrence went into the halftime break up 39-11.
Stella Davis started the second half with a layup to put St. Lawrence up by 30, and the lead stayed at least that large for the rest of the game. The Cardinals 19 fourth-quarter points was their highest scoring quarter of the game, but the damage had been done.
"The execution of our defensive game plan was outstanding tonight," said head coach
Dan Roiger. "We made shots very difficult for them and did an excellent job of making them make an extra pass. Credit to Dylan and Shannon, who really performed well on defense and to the whole team for taking advantage of their efforts."
11 Saints scored tonight as the team shot over 45 percent from the field. Inglee Brinley led the Cardinals in scoring with 10, but the Saints defense held them to shooting under 25 percent. Neither team could get much going from deep, with the Saints shooting 6-for-21 and the Cardinals 3-for-13.
"It's great to see us distribute the shots and points throughout the lineup," Roiger continued. "A lot of contributors makes it much more difficult to guard and we are very unselfish up and down the lineup.
Olivia Barringer was incredible in the first half, she didn't miss a shot, and Sierra and Abby off the bench with double digits and
Katie Chisholm was shooting the ball great. Our bench gave us 35 points tonight and shot 15-29 from the field, that was an outstanding contribution."
St. Lawrence out-rebounded Plattsburgh 54 to 35, and forced 20 Cardinal turnovers. The Saints had 10 steals and 18 assists, and Plattsburgh had eight steals and just six assists.
