Game Recap: Volleyball |

Saints Sweep Purple Knights

Senior Annika Kreppein had 11 kills, as the St. Lawrence volleyball team beat Saint Michael's College in straight sets on Tuesday evening in Canton, N.Y., with set scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-15.

First-year Rachel Boudreau had a career night, recording five kills and having a match high six blocks. Courtney Benson added five kills and three blocks. Setters Allie Posnick and Dorian Funk recorded 25 of the team's 31 assists, Posnick leading the match with 15.

"Tonight was a much needed victory for the team," said head coach Shelly Roiger. "It's been a tough couple of weeks in terms of our performance the last three matches so it was nice to rediscover how enjoyable winning is. We were able to get everyone in the match and several players came in and did a great job of simply doing their job. It was great to see our blocking game make its presence and I think that fueled a lot of the excitement on the court. I'm very happy for our team, they needed this."

The Saints led 8-4 in aces, 31-20 in assists, 37-30 in digs, and 35-25 in kills.

Saint Michael's College was led by Haley Stanton's five kills, Aaliyah Huihui-Martinez's nine digs, and Caroline Curley's three blocks.

The Saints improved to 7-8, while the Purple Knights fell to 1-6.

St. Lawrence returns to league play this weekend, when they host Vassar on Friday at 7 p.m., and Bard on Saturday at 2 p.m.
