Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Bahl Scores, Clarkson Tops Saints 4-1

Kristina Bahl scored her first goal of the season on the power play, but the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team fell 4-1 to Clarkson in non-league action on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

St. Lawrence fell to 2-2-2 on the season, while Clarkson improved to 5-0-1.

The Scarlet and Brown struck first for the second day in a row on a power-play goal from Kristina Bahl. At the 4:17 mark of the first period Kristina Schuler was whistled for a hooking penalty, sending the Saints to the power play. St. Lawrence wasted little time as 21 seconds into the advantage Hillary Sterling sent a pass up to Bahl, who was running the point, and fired a slapshot off Brooke McQuigge's stick and past Clarkson goaltender Michelle Pasiechnyk to take the early 1-0 lead.

Clarkson would get an equalizer later in the first period to knot the game at one apiece. With just under three minutes remaining in the frame both teams fought for a loose puck on the boards to the right of Saints' goaltender Lucy Morgan. The puck came out and onto the stick of McQuigge, who found Anne Cherkowski all alone in between the circles. Cherkowski loaded up and ripped a high shot over the glove of Morgan to tie the game.

The Golden Knights took the 2-0 lead with seven minutes and 11 seconds left in the second period off a great individual effort. Caitrin Lonergan picked up a loose puck in the Clarkson defensive zone and began to skate towards the Saints' end. Lonergan used her speed to weave through traffic and to the right faceoff dot, where she took a wrist shot to the far side post, and over the right shoulder of Morgan to bring the game to 2-1.

With game at 2-1 Saints' head coach Chris Wells pulled Morgan as they searched for the game-tying tally. Clarkson would end up getting empty-net goals from Lonergan and Schuler to ice the game at 4-1.

"We played a good weekend of hockey from start to finish," said Wells. "This is one of the hardest working teams we've had here. Today specifically we just missed on a bunch of plays that could have given us some more scoring chances. Pucks were just out of reach or Clarkson did a good job interrupting the play."

Morgan stopped 25 of the 27 shots she faced for the Saints, while Pasiechnyk made 17 for the Golden Knights.

The Saints went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Golden Knights went 0-for-4. Clarkson outshot St. Lawrence 29-18.

The Scarlet and Brown will have a quick turnaround as they will travel to Rochester for a matchup against RIT on Thursday, October 21st at 6:00 p.m.
