Butler Perfect at the Plate but Errors Prove Costly in Loss to Oswego

St. Lawrence scored first on Wednesday afternoon, but Oswego State responded with runs in every inning but one to beat the Saints baseball team 24-7 in a non-conference game in Oswego, New York.

Rookie Nicholas Butler led the Saints with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate with a double, and RBI and a run scored. Taylor Digilio scored a team best two runs against the Lakers, and was one of four players – all seniors - to record two hits in the loss, joining Evan O'Keeffe, Joe DeGuardia and Jeremy Gerringer.

Andrew Circelli hit his second home run in as many games – a two-run shot to left - in the first inning to put St. Lawrence in front 2-0 in the top of the frame

Oswego answered, however, scoring three in the bottom of the first and four run in the bottom of the second to take a 7-2 lead, and would it extend the lead to 9-2 before the Saints started to chip away.

The Saints committed one error in each of the first two innings and seven total in the game.

In the top of the fifth, the Saints scored three runs on four hits, including an RBI single to center by O'Keeffe, an RBI groundout by Circelli and a single up the middle by DeGuardia that brought O'Keeffe in to score to make it 9-5, as they Saints appeared to be chipping away.

But the Lakers added two in the bottom of fifth and scored a game-high nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach. They rounded out the scoring with another four runs in the sixth to push to the final 24-7 margin.
