The St. Lawrence baseball team ran into hot Skidmore bats on Monday afternoon, as the Thoroughbreds swept the Saints, 10-0, 9-1, in a Liberty League doubleheader on Tom Fay Field.
Skidmore hit four home runs on the day, including three in the shut out in game one. Matt Chipkin led the visitors with a homer in each game.
St. Lawrence was outhit 27-11 in the doubleheader. Â
Nicholas Butler led the Saints with a 3-for-6 day at the plate and was the only player to finish with a multi-hit game.
Game 1 – Skidmore 10, St. Lawrence 0
Skidmore took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double to right field by Jake Hardy and never looked back, as they tagged the Saints' starter
Caleb Clarke for seven runs on 11 hits in 4.1 innings. Reliever
Louis LaCivita allowed three runs on seven hits in the final 1.2 innings of work.
Justin LaRose hit the first of three home runs in the second to extend Skidmore's lead to 2-0 and then, in the fifth, with his team up 4-0, Jake Hardy drilled the 19
th pitch of his at bat over the fence in right field to make it a 6-0 game.
Hardy fouled off 13 of those 19 pitches, including nine straight with a 2-2 count before going yard.
Chipkin capped off the scoring for Skidmore with a two-run shot of his own to right field in the bottom of the sixth for the final 10-0 margin.

Cristian Forgione,
Joe Levin and
Jake Delaney each finished with a hit in the loss. Delaney made his first appearance since March 23 when he pinch hit for
Alex Black in the top of the seventh and singled up the middle.
Spencer Meyer struck out eight in a complete game win for Skidmore.
Game 2 – Skidmore 9, St. Lawrence 1
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when
Andrew Circelli hit an RBI single through the left side to drive in
Taylor Digilio, but Skidmore pulled in front in the bottom of the frame with Chipkin's second home run of the day.
Chipkin lined the first pitch of his at-bat off the foul pole in right to give Skidmore a quick 3-1 lead. The Thoroughbreds added another run in the bottom of the second and then tacked on five more on five hits in the bottom of the fifth to push to the final 9-1 margin.

Cameron Morrissey threw 4.1 innings for the Saints in the second game, allowed nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits with one strikeout and five walks. First-years
Huck Haun and
Sam Putney both made appearances in relief.
Nicholas Butler finished with a pair of hits, while Circelli, Forgione
Matt Marowitz and
Jeremy Gerringer also singled for St. Lawrence.
Skidmore's Will Potter struck out 10 in the win to improve to 2-1 on the season for the Thoroughbreds.
