Union Sweeps Saints to Close Out Season Series

Union's offense erupted to sweep the St. Lawrence University baseball team in Sunday's Liberty League doubleheader at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam, New York.

The Dutchmen won game one 10-3 and scored a combined 15 runs in the first two innings of the nightcap en route to a 22-3 win to complete the sweep.

Senior Taylor Digilio went a combined 4-for-7 in both games, including a 3-for-4 performance in the first game. He also scored two of the team's six runs on the day.

First-year Andrew Circelli hit his first career home run in game one, which is also the first home run for the Saints on the season. He was 2-for-3 in that game, with two RBI and a run scored.

Game 1 –

With the Saints leading 3-2, Union rallied for eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to come-from-behind for the 10-3 win.

St. Lawrence opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Evan O'Keeffe hit an RBI single to right center to bring Digilio into score.

Union tied the game with an RBI groundout in the top of the third, and then took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth.

Circelli's two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning game the Saints a brief 3-2 lead, but Union responded with eight runs on six hits, including three home runs, to close it out.

St. Lawrence outhit the Dutchmen 11-10 in the first game, but made four errors to Union's one.

Starter Patrick Greenan threw 5.0 innings and allowed just one run on three hits with three strikeouts and left with the game tied 1-1.

Liam Reiner took the loss, allowing six runs on five hits in an inning of work in relief.

Game 2 –

Union hit an additional four home runs in the nightcap, including two in the first two innings to help put the Dutchmen in front 15-2.

After Union opened the game with six runs on six hits in the top of the first inning, O'Keeffe put the Saints on board to cut the deficit to four runs with a two-RBI single to right center that scored Nicholas Butler and Digilio.

The Dutchmen opened the second with a leadoff home run to increase the lead to 7-2, and went on to add eight more runs on six hits, including two errors to put the game out of reach.

The Saints third and final run came on a sacrifice fly by Joe DeGuardia in the bottom of the fourth inning that brought Circelli in to score.
