Kaelyn Kohlasch tallied 11 points to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 42-37 Liberty League win over Union on Friday evening in Schenectady, New York.
Second to Kohlasch, who shot 4-for-10 from the floor and 3-for-8 from the arc,
Katie Gallagher added eight points and seven rebounds for the Saints.
Jenny Scudder recorded six points, while
Cara Waterson and
Katie Frederick added five points apiece. Frederick also posted a team-high eight rebounds, while
Marlee Gunn grabbed two steals.
Evenly paced from the start, the Saints only edged the Dutchwomen by one point after the first ten minutes of play.
Union rebounded to post a 15-10 lead over the Scarlet and Brown with just over six minutes remaining in the second frame. A 3-pointer from
Annabella Pugliese and a jumper from Scudder cut the Dutchwomen's lead to one twice in the final two minutes of the second quarter.
After two ties in the third quarter, Union outshot the Saints 10-8 to 28-25 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Nicole Conley put Union back up by five after shooting 2-for-2 from the line, but the Saints rallied taking their first lead of the second half off a layup from Kohlasch with 4:53 to play, while Frederick put the Saints up 39-37 with 36 seconds remaining. Gunn sealed the win for the Saints shooting 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.
"Union's defense really bothered us today and when we did have good shots we rushed them early," said head coach
Dan Roiger. "Finally in the fourth quarter we hit on an adjustment and got back to even.
Katie Gallagher and
Katie Frederick made a big play in the final minute and that was just enough to get a road win."
Conley led the Dutchwomen with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Lily Abarbanel added eight points, while Jenni Barra and Elly Vaughan netted seven points each.
With the win, St. Lawrence improved to 15-6 overall and 10-4 in conference play, while Union fell to 7-14 and 4-11.
The Saints are currently in fourth place in the Liberty League standings and will take on Ithaca in their last regular season road game tomorrow afternoon in Ithaca, New York at 2 p.m.
