E. Reichel Earns Third Win on the Mound; Baseball Splits with Clarkson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Starting pitcher Evan Reichel held Clarkson to just one run and Michael LeFevre's bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning capped a four-run frame for the Saints baseball team in a 6-1 game one win over Clarkson on Sunday afternoon in Potsdam, New York.

Clarkson won the second game 11-4 to earn the split in both Sunday's doubleheader and the four-game series this weekend. St. Lawrence is now 10-13 overall and 8-6 in Liberty League contests. Clarkson finishes the weekend at 14-15 overall with an 11-7 mark in conference play.

Game 1 –
After trading runs in the first inning, the teams were tied at 1-1 until the top of the fifth inning when senior Devin Robson put the Saints in front for good with an RBI single to right field to drive in Mic Regan for a 2-1 lead.

Evan Reichel gave up the one run to Clarkson on an RBI double by Cam Bando in the first inning, but kept the Golden Knights off the board for the remaining of the game. He allowed just six hits with three walks en route to his third win of the year.

With the Saints still leading 2-1, Regan led off the sixth inning with a single through the right side and, after moving into scoring position on a wild pitch, came around to score on consecutive singled through the left side by Evan O'Keeffe and Jeremy Gerringer.

A walk to first-year Brendan Frank loaded the bases with two outs setting up LeFevre's three-run, bases clearing double to left to push the Saints lead to the eventual 6-1 margin.

LeFevre and Adam Reichel each had 3-for-4 performances in game one, while Regan finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Liam Rogers inherited one runner with no one out in the bottom of the seventh and did not allow a hit to close out the win.

Game 2 –
Clarkson took an early 3-0 lead with runs in the bottom of the first inning and extended that lead to 8-0 with a five-run third.

St. Lawrence starter Caleb Clarke went two and two-thirds innings and allowed eight runs, though only two were earned, on five hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.

Trailing 8-0, the Saints loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the fifth inning and plated a pair of runs on an RBI single by Gerringer and an RBI ground out from Adam Reichel. After a walk to Brendon Frank loaded the bases once again, Clarkson starter Mike Bubniak got LeFevre to hit into a 4-6-3 double play to work out of the jam.

The Saints cut the deficit in half with two more runs in the top of the eighth inning. Frank scored on a wild pitch and Devin Robson drove in LeFevre on a sacrifice fly to right field. But Clarkson responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to secure the 11-4 win and series split.

Frank led the Saints with a pair of hits in game two, including a triple. Alex Black pitched an inning and third in relief, allowing just two hits. Will Fellows followed with two more innings of scoreless baseball and gave up one hit with two strikeouts. First-year Louis LaCivita closed out the final two innings of game two and allowed three runs on four hits.

After the weekend, St. Lawrence is now tied with RPI for fourth place in the Liberty League standings with two league weekends remaining. The top four teams advance to the postseason conference tournament.

The Saints will host SUNY Canton for a non-conference game on Tuesday, April
