Saints Defeat Plattsburgh, 59-26

Katie Gallagher recorded a team-high 11 points and seven rebounds to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 59-26 win over SUNY Plattsburgh Tuesday evening in Plattsburgh, New York.

Kaelyn Kohlasch scored nine points and added three rebounds, while Cara Waterson and Katie Frederick added seven points and four rebounds each.

The Saints held the lead for the entire game, kicking off the game with an early 8-1 run and ended the first quarter with a nine-point lead. A series of free throws wound down the first half and allowed the Saints to hold a slight 18-12 lead.

A seven-point run midway through the third quarter extended the Saints' lead to 17 points. First-year Marlee Gunn landed a shot from behind the arc to give St. Lawrence a 24-point lead with just under four minutes remaining in regulation and Tori Bruno also hit a 3-pointer with seconds remaining to finish off the win.

"We played outstanding defense all 40 minutes tonight," said head coach Dan Roiger. "Our posts did a great job against some good players and our guards forced tough shots without fouling. Our offense made some good adjustments at halftime and played well in the second half."

The Scarlet and Brown edged the Cardinals in steals (9-2), blocks (8-6) and rebounds (49-32) and shot 51 percent from the field in the second half.

Plattsburgh was led by Hanna Whitney with seven points, while Frannie Merkel and Lauren Lawliss tallied six each. Lawliss also recorded a team-high 11 rebounds.

St. Lawrence improved to 2-1, while the Cardinals fell to 0-3 on the season.

The Saints will travel to Skidmore and Rensselaer this weekend to open up Liberty League play. St. Lawrence faces the Thoroughbreds on Friday, December 1st at 6 p.m. and the Engineers on Saturday, December 2nd at 2 p.m.
