Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saints Settle for Tie with RIT

Rob Brandell gave St. Lawrence a 2-1 lead in the 61st minute, but RIT's Nick Simone scored in the 88th minute and the Saints' men's soccer team was forced to settle for a 2-2 tie with the Tigers in a Liberty League game on Sandy MacAllaster Field on Saturday afternoon.

Jethro Dede scored the game's first goal in the ninth minute, taking a pass from Ryan Roche and burying a shot in the right side netting from the top of the 18.

RIT tied the game about 10 minutes later, as Dean Kouroupas threaded the needle with a pass to Anthony DeFeo deep in the Saints' end, and DeFeo beat St. Lawrence goalkeeper Mike Smith with a shot into the left side.

Brandell had a chance to give the Saints the lead again with a penalty kick early in the second half, but sent his shot hard off the crossbar. He got redemption, however, just two minutes later, heading a cross from Tapshak Augustine past RIT goalkeeper Peter Cinibulk in the 61st minute.

Simon Garno set up the game-tying goal for the Tigers, heading the ball deep into the Saints penalty area, where Simone won a 50-50 ball and sent the ball into the back of the net.

The game was even, with St. Lawrence holding a 10-9 edge in shots and RIT leading the Saints 3-2 in corner kicks. Both Cinibulk and Smith made three saves in net.

"The guys worked very hard again today against a tough opponent in RIT," said head coach Mike Toshack. "We were disappointed to give up a late goal to allow them to tie the game, but the team again showed great resiliency and came out and opened up opportunities in overtime. Up until the last kick of the game we were in their box looking to score. We look forward to prepare to get ready for a big weekend at Bard and Vassar next weekend."

St. Lawrence moved to 5-4-3 overall and holds a one-point lead in the Liberty League standings with a 3-0-2 conference record. RIT moved to 3-5-2, 1-2-1.
