Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saints Top Bard, 3-1

The St. Lawrence University men's soccer team scored two goals before halftime and added a third in the 87th minute to defeat Bard 3-1 in a Liberty League contest Friday afternoon in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Tapshak Augustine, Jethro Dede and Brendan McNamee each recorded a goal for the Saints.

Augustine capitalized on a loose ball in front of the net to put the Saints on the board in the ninth minute of play.

Dede scored his seventh goal of the season on a penalty-kick at the 22:58 mark to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage heading into the second half.

Brendan Byrne closed the Saints lead to one after slipping a shot past Saints' goalkeeper Mike Smith in the 58th minute.

McNamee picked up a cross in the middle of the box and fired a shot to the lower right side, which added an insurance goal for the Saints, giving them a 3-1 advantage.

"It was a good result for the team today," said head coach Mike Toshack. "We came out strong and got two goals in the first half. We created some other excellent chances that we would have liked to finish on, but in the end the players finished the job and fully deserve the three points."

The Saints held a 6-3 shots on goal advantage. Smith finished with two saves for the win, while Taylor Bond recorded three saves in goal for the Raptors.

St. Lawrence improved to 6-4-3 on the season and still remains undefeated in Liberty League play at 4-0-2. Bard fell to 3-8-1 and 0-4-1.

The Saints travel to Vassar on Oct. 14th, game time is set for 2 p.m.
