Balanced Attack Leads Men’s Lacrosse Past Geneseo

Four different players scored three goals each to lead the St. Lawrence University Men's Lacrosse team to a convincing 19-4 victory over SUNY Geneseo Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup on North Country Field in Hall-Leet Stadium in Canton.

Jeremy Vautour, Conor Healey, Jamie DeNicola and Gardner Imhoff all scored three goals each in the win and Vautour added two assists for a team-leading five points in the win for St. Lawrence (8-0).

The Saints, ranked No. 8 in the country in the latest USILA/Nike National Poll scored early and often with eight goals in the first quarter and the first goal of the second quarter to take a 9-0 lead. Jon Fairbanks, Andrew Jarrett, Imhoff, DeNicola, Vautour and Healey all scored single goals to give the Saints and early 6-0 lead.

DeNicola and Vautour scored their second goals of the game to wrap up the scoring in the first quarter and Jordan Dow added his first goal of the game 11 seconds into the second quarter to extend the lead to 9-0.

Geneseo (4-3) finally got on the scoreboard with a goal at the 13:04 mark but St. Lawrence answered with nine of the next 10 goals extending into the fourth quarter for a commanding 17-2 lead.

The Knights scored a pair of goals in less than a minute but DeNicola and Imhoff added late goals in the final quarter for the final margin of victory.

The Saints won nearly every statistical aspect of the game in dominating fashion with a 62-16 advantage in shots, a 44-8 lead in shots on goal, a 49-19 edge in ground balls and a 22-5 lead in face offs on the day.

Vautour led the Saints with five points; Healey added four on three goals and one assist while Steven Peterson (three assists), DeNicola and Imhoff all recorded three points.

Ryan Fisher earned his eighth win of the year in goal and combined with Patrick Sullivan, Matty Corbelle and Conor Johnson to make four saves in the victory.

The Saints return to Liberty League play Saturday with a much anticipated matchup with RIT in Canton. Both the Saints (#*) and the Tigers (#2) are ranked in the top-10 in the country.
