The St. Lawrence University Women's Basketball team had its worst shooting night of the season making just 30 percent of its shots in a 64-41 loss at Clarkson Tuesday night in a Liberty League matchup in Alumni Gym in Potsdam.
St. Lawrence (8-3 overall, 2-1 Liberty League connected on just 14-of-46 shots from the field and made just one of 14 3-pointers as Clarkson (8-4, 3-2) built a double-digit lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
In the first quarter, the Golden Knights went on a 13-0 run midway through the quarter taking a 5-5 game to an 18-5 advantage and eventually went into the first break with a 22-10 lead.
In the second quarter, Clarkson extended its lead with another big run with a 13-2 streak and opened up a 20-point lead.
Cara Waterson and Sarah Thomas each scored eight points to lead the Saints and Thomas was the high rebounder for St. Lawrence with six rebounds. Lauren Quattrocchi added six points and a team-best four assists.
Waterson had the lone 3-pointer as the Saints were held to their lowest offensive output since scoring 38 points in a 50-38 loss to Williams College on Jan. 5, 2014. The 23-point deficit was te most since losing to Plattsburgh in November of 2013 by an 88-59 score.
The Saints will look to rebound from the loss Friday starting a home Liberty League doubleheader at 6 pm against William Smith. The team will face RIT Saturday at 2 pm and wrap up a six games in nine days run with a 7 pm home game Monday against SUNY Canton.
