Kaelyn Kohlasch scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half and Ellie Gonyeau led the St. Lawrence University Women's Basketball team with 18 points in a 65-56 win over William Smith Friday night in a Liberty League matchup at Burkman Gymnasium in Canton.
The Saints (9-3 overall, 3-1 Liberty League) held a slim 27-27 lead at the halftime intermission but scored the first six points of the second half thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Kohlasch. A layup by Lauren Quattrocchi at the 6:54 mark gave St. Lawrence a 10-point lead at 39-29.
William Smith (4-7, 2-1) came back with the next five points to trim the lead.
Gonyeau buried a jumper with 1:31 left in the third quarter and Shayna Davner connected on a 3-pointer at the end of the period for an 11-point Saints lead.
The Herons trimmed the lead to eight points in the first couple minutes of the final quarter but St. Lawrence answered with two more Kohlasch 3-pointers to regain control and cruise to the win.
Gonyeau led the Saints with 18 points while Kohlasch had 14 Quattrocchi added 11 points and a team-best seven assists. Caroline Dalton led the rebounders with seven for the Saints who forced 19 turnovers and committed just eight in the game. Cara Waterson had six reboundsa and led the team with four steals.
St. Lawrence continues the Liberty League weekend with a 2 pm game against RIT Saturday in Burkman Gymnasium.
