Claire O'Neil shot the first sub-par round in women's golf program history with a 71 at Spook Rock Golf Course on Sunday and finished tied for third in the NYU Invitational, moving up 15 spots in round two.
O'Neil was tied for 18
th after an opening round 82 on the hilly and tree lined par 72 course on Saturday, and then came back with her best collegiate round on Sunday to finish tied for third in the 67-player field. Her previous best score was a record-tying 73 also at NYU in her sophomore season.
She helped the Saints finish sixth as a team with a two round total of 346-321-667. Williams won the tournament with a 614 total to lead the 12-team field.
All five Saint golfers contributed to the best-four-of-five total.
Olivia Zachman shot her collegiate best with an 83 in the second round and was 26
th with a 86-83-169 total while
Laura Gay was tied for 32
nd with rounds of 91 and 82 for a 173 total.
Hailey Wilson shot 87-92 for 179 and was tied for 45
th while
Lexie Haehl trimmed ten strokes off a Saturday 95 with a 85 on Sunday and was tied for 48
th at 180.
The Saints will play in the Martin-Wallace Invitational at Cortland Sept. 26-27.
