April 18: Union pitcher Jake Fishman allowed just one hit in the first game of a Liberty League doubleheader with St. Lawrence baseball, as the Dutchmen shut out the Saints 5-0 in game one and snapped a 4-4 tie in the late innings of game two en route to a 6-4 win to complete the sweep. The Saints are now 12-12 overall and 4-9 in conference games, while Union improves to 15-8 and 9-5.

Senior Mark Syron had the only St. Lawrence hit in game one, which was the second consecutive game in which the Saints has been shut out. Sam Downes allowed five run on eight hits in six innings of work and struck out five batters in the loss.

Union's game-winning run in the bottom of the first inning came on a sacrifice fly to center field and they added a run a piece in the second and fourth, fifth and sixth innings to push to the eventual 5-0 margin.

Fishman also helped himself at the plate, leading the Dutchmen with a 3-for-3 day and two runs scored.

In game two, Union jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with the help of five hits; all singles off of starting pitcher Alex Dermody. He went two and two-thirds innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two wild pitches.  He was relieved by Frank Grady, who pitched four innings and allowed just one run on three hits, but was credited with the loss.

The Saints came all the way back from four runs down with a run in the fourth on a Kyle MacDonald single up the middle that plated Adam Reichel and three in the fifth as Chris
Fernandez, Syron and Michael LeFevre each came around to score in the top of the frame to tie the game at 4-4.

However, Union scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth and an insurance run in the eighth to seal the sweep.

Fishman again led the Dutchmen with three hits in the contest, while Syron led the Saints with a 3-for-5 outing with an RBI and a run scored.

The Saints and Dutchmen will play two more games no Sunday afternoon, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
