Kyle Plimpton was stellar on the mound in the first game of a midweek doubleheader versus RIT, as she struck out nine in a 1-0 shutout win. Classmate
Aisha O'Connor drove in the Saints only run while fellow senior
Brady Cooper had one of the Saints two hits in the contest. RIT answered with a shutout performance of its own in game two; winning 5-0 to earn the Liberty League split.
Despite being outhit 5-2 in the first game on Wednesday, the Saints were able to manufacture a run in bottom of the third inning on one hit and one error.
Sophomore
Jordan Sheridan led off the inning with a bloop single behind third base and later moved to third on a two-base error by the Tigers' first baseman following a bunt attempt by first-year
Kylee Knight. O'Connor plated Sheridan for the game's only run with a groundout to second base.
The win is Plimpton's ninth on the mound for the Saints this season. She threw seven innings, allowed five hits and walked two batters.
In the second game, the Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, adding two more in the fourth and one in the seventh.
RIT outhit the Saints 9-3 en route to their shutout win, but also made five errors, giving St. Lawrence plenty of opportunities with runners in scoring position. The Scarlet and Brown stranded nine runners in the loss.
Plimpton – who also started game two for the Saints – was the pitcher of record. She was relieved by first-year
Emma Gailey, who had her strongest outing this season in six innings of work. Gailey allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out four.
The Saint, now 9-8 overall and 3-3 against conference opponents, will play host to SUNY Canton for a single game on Thursday, April 16 before continuing their Liberty League schedule with a pair of doubleheaders at Union and RPI on the road this weekend.
