Saints Draw with Dutchwomen

Feb. 6: Junior defenseman Megan Armstrong scored the lone goal for the St. Lawrence women's hockey team, as the No. 8/9 Saints tied Union 1-1 on Friday night in Schenectady. With the tie, the Saints stand at 16-9-4 overall and 10-4-3 in conference, while Union moves to 1-13-3 against ECAC opponents.

"Well we certainly have given great effort over the last two games, but haven't had much to show for it on the scoreboard," Head Coach Chris Wells said.

Junior defenseman Megan Armstrong scored her fifth of the season at the 1:45 mark of the first period off a feed from first-year Hannah Miller to give the Saints an early lead that would last into the third period.

But Union's Kathryn Tomaselli knotted the game at 1-1 at the 6:28 mark of the final frame with her eighth of the year from Christine Valente and Bryanne Panchuk.

The Saints outshot Union 42-22 in the contest, but the Dutchwomen were stellar in their defensive zone; blocking 32 shots.

"We made an executed plays, but we weren't able to finish when we had the chance or Lundberg was there to make the stop," Wells said.

Lundberg finished with 41 saves for the Dutchwomen, while senior netminder Carmen MacDonald stopped 31 shots for the Saints.

"We will continue to work as hard we have and carry it over into our game versus RPI," Wells said.

The Saints will square off against the Engineers Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
