Roger Williams Edges Saints 1-0

Kelsey West '16
Box Score Sept. 5: An early goal helped Roger Williams edge the St. Lawrence women's soccer team 1-0 on Friday night in the opening game of the Springfield College Invitational in Massachusetts. The loss snaps a 12-game non-conference unbeaten streak for the Saints.

The Hawks' Mariah Kaiser tallied the game's only goal in the 7th minute off a rebound after junior goalkeeper Kelsey West made the initial stop on Jessica Valenti. Kaiser collected the ball and tucked it inside the right post for the game winner.

"Unfortunately we came out very flat in the first half and as a result we conceded a goal," Head Coach Franco Bari said.  "I was pleased with our second half performance: good ball movement and quality scoring opportunities, but unfortunately we couldn't put it away. This was a good learning experience for us."

The Saints outshot Roger Williams 6-2 in the second half and forced the Hawks Sydney Martin to make four saves on the day. West finished with two stops for the Saints.
Now 2-1 on the season, St. Lawrence will play in the consolation game of the Springfield Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
