Box Score Sept. 27: The St. Lawrence women's soccer team dropped its Liberty League opening matchup against the No. 17 defending national champion William Smith, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in Geneva. Both goals resulted from a Herons corner kick opportunity.
William Smith, now 6-2-0 and 1-0-0 in the Liberty League, finished with an 8-2 edge in corners, including five in the first half. With the loss, the Saints fall to 6-3-0 and 0-1-0 in league play.
"While the result was disappointing for us, the effort was strong," Head Coach
Franco Bari said. "Our team put out a great effort and unfortunately William Smith scored both goals on restarts."

nd minute when Lauren Randaccio beat Saints goalkeeper
Kelsey West with a hard shot through traffic in the box. MacKenzie Smith, who took the corner kick for William Smith, assisted on the play.
Madeline Buckley extended the home team's lead to 2-0 in the 66
th minute when she collected a pass from teammate Zoe Eth at the top of the box and put a shot into the high right corner after the Saints failed to clear the Herons initial corner.
"We did have a few good chances which didn't quite fall for us," Bari added, "but I am certain that this game will prepare us well for our future conference matches."

Nyssa LaClair each registered one shot on goal for St. Lawrence. The Saints finished with nine shots on the afternoon and forced Herons keeper Nicole McGlinchy to make three stops en route to her first collegiate shutout. West finished with three saves in the loss.Â
