Box Score Mar. 1: The St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team got its 2014 campaign off to an impressive start on Saturday, as the Saints handled Babson College by the score of 15-4 in New Haven, CT. Junior
Tommy Hovey scored a career-high four goals,
Jeremy Vautour had two goals and two assists and
Nick Ford earned his first collegiate win with 11 saves in goal.
St. Lawrence (1-0) generated most of the offense in the first half, as Babson (1-1) couldn't get much going against the Saints' defense. The Scarlet and Brown led 4-1 after one and build the lead to 7-2 at halftime.
Babson would close the gap to 7-4 by scoring the first two goals of the third quarter. However, the Saints ended the game on an 8-0 run, including a 6-0 shutout in the fourth quarter to solidify the non-conference opening win.
Charlie Jennings scored a pair of goals for St. Lawrence, as did
Alonzo Holcombe and
Conor Healey.
Garrett Gagne and Chris Anklin had a goal and an assist each, while
Luke DiLisio scored as well.
Marc Perroni had two assists while
Pierson Fowler,
Jonathan Fairbanks and
Joseph Stacy each had one.
Babson was led by Spencer Low, who scored twice for the Beavers, while Kyle Barsalou and Brendan Coan each tallied a goal. However, Ford, who had only played in one game in relief during his collegiate career, was solid between the pipes and backstopped St. Lawrence to the victory with a double-digit save performance.
The Saints are slated to be in action again on Wednesday, March 5 at home against Oswego State at 4:00pm. Updates on the status of that game will be posted to SaintsAthletics.com as they develop due to the continuing winter conditions.
