The St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team ended the season ranked 14
th nationally in the USILA Coaches Poll, as they advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and four Saints earned USILA All-American honors to highlight the 2026 season.
The Scarlet and Brown opened the season with back-to-back non-conference wins, defeating Western New England 17-9 and 10th-ranked Cortland 13-12 at home.
The Saints then topped Nazareth to kick off their spring break trip, and then headed to Stevenson, Md. Over to the highly competitive Mustang Classic. SLU went 1-1 on the weekend, taking down host Stevenson 16-10 in the Saturday night headliner game.
St. Lawrence jumped into Liberty League play, edging Union 11-10 at North Country Field on March 21st. SLU posted conference wins over RPI, RIT, Skidmore, and Vassar. The Saints win over the Tigers was the first in 24 years, with the last win recorded in 2002.
The Saints earned the second seed in the Liberty League Tournament, earning a first-round bye and a home semifinal game against RIT. SLU held the lead throughout the majority of the game, but a strong fourth quarter gave RIT the 11-9 edge.
The Saints were selected to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, for the sixth time in the last 10 years and the 16th time in program history, and headed to Wellesley, Mass. In total, the Saints played nine games against nationally ranked opponents in 2026 and played five regular season games against opponents that made the national tournament.
"My biggest takeaway from the 2026 season was the team's resilience and willingness to stick to the process," said head coach
Mike Mahoney, who competed his 29th season with the Saints. "While it wasn't a perfect season, they never let a loss impact their next opportunity and I am really proud of how they responded to adversity."
"This team will certainly be remembered as the team that got the RIT monkey off our backs, which was a very memorable day. This team has put us in a nice position for future success, and we are very excited about that!"
