Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Copeland, Roney Lead Saints Past No. 18 RPI

Oct. 4: Junior Harry Copeland snapped a scoreless tie in the 53rd minute and senior Austin Roney added an insurance goal in the 80th to help the Saints men's soccer team upset No. 18 Rensselaer, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in Troy, N.Y.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Houston tied his season high of six saves, including four in the second half, en route to his sixth win and third shutout of the season.

With the win, the Saints improve to 9-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 against Liberty League opponents, while RPI falls for 7-2-2 and 2-1-0 in league competition.

Copeland put the Saints in front for good on a free kick by senior captain Mark Provost from 20 yards out. The six-foot-five center back tallied his fourth goal of the year when he headed the service into the lower left corner behind RPI keeper Rob Dewald.

Roney extended the St. Lawrence lead to 2-0 with his second of the season in the 81st minute when he rifled a shot from the edge of the box that rang off the post before hitting Dewald in the back and crossing the line.

Although they held an 11-7 edge in total shots, the St. Lawrence goals were the only shots on net for the Saints on Saturday; Dewald did not register a save for RPI.

St. Lawrence continues Liberty League competition next Saturday, Oct. 11 with a 2 p.m. game against Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y.
