Jim Berkman '82 was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Nov. 1: St. Lawrence University alumnus Jim Berkman '82 was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 26 at the Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley, MD.

Berkman, who was inducted into the St. Lawrence Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001, is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA men's history with a career record of 428-48 at Salisbury University.  He has won 10 Division III national championships.

"It's a fitting honor for someone that has had such a great amount of success over the course of his coaching career," said St. Lawrence head men's lacrosse coach Mike Mahoney.  "Jim has set the standard for success for our sport at all levels."

The Most Valuable Player of both the basketball and lacrosse teams as a senior and the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete, Berkman played in seven NCAA tournaments during his undergraduate career at St. Lawrence, including four straight in lacrosse.  A first-team All-America in lacrosse as a senior and a selection for the North-South Game, he scored 40 goals as a senior and finished his career third on the all-time Saint scoring list.

Berkman returned to St. Lawrence as head basketball coach in 1985-86 and spent three seasons at the helm, winning the 1987-88 ICAC title. He also served as the assistant lacrosse coach until his move to Salisbury.

More than 380 lacrosse greats are enshrined in the Lacrosse Hall of Fame, which is at the US Lacrosse headquarters in Baltimore.
