Jamie Rosenzweig surpassed 100 career points, senior
Ted Wilson scored four goals, and goaltender
Heath Mann recorded 14 saves, as the No. 16 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team defeated No. 17 Hamilton 14-10 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Babson Park, Mass.
Wilson added an assist for five points on the day, while Rosenzweig recorded two goals and an assist. His first point of the day was his 100th career point in his sophomore campaign.
Daniel Mahoney also tallied two goals and an assist, while
Henry Crean and
Cam Croasdaile finished with one of each.
Dan Anderson,
Charlie Cunningham,
Drew Knight and
Asa Beach also scored for SLU.
Rosenzweig picked up five ground balls, while
Drew Knight picked up six and caused three turnovers.
Wyatt Ryckert won nine faceoffs and picked up four ground balls.
Wilson struck first with his 22nd goal of the season to give SLU the early edge. Hamilton knotted the game up just about a minute later, but back-to-back tallies from Wilson and
Charlie Cunningham gave the Saints a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Continentals and the Saints traded two goals apiece in the second, but Hamilton scored the final goal of the quarter, as SLU held onto a 5-4 lead at halftime.
Hamilton scored two out of the break, taking their first lead of the game, making it 6-5, but the Saints were hot, scoring six unanswered goals and outscoring the Continentals 6-2 in the third to build an 11-6 lead.
Jesse Delinsky opened the fourth for Hamilton, but St. Lawrence tacked on three straight goals from Mahoney, Anderson and Knight to double up on the Continentals 14-7. Hamilton tallied the last three but were unable to overcome the strong second half from the Saints.
"We knew we had to play a 60-minute game and I thought we did just that," said head coach
Mike Mahoney. "Hamilton made a push out of the half and I thought our guys responded well, and I'm so proud of the team, the effort and the unselfishness, and it was a great day for us."
"We loved the crowd that we had today, we have a lot of families from the area and a great alumni base," Mahoney added. "A big thank you to everyone that made it out and the positive energy that they brought to the game."
Finn Vaccaro led Hamilton with two goals and two assists, while Andrew Higgins won 13 faceoffs and picked up nine ground balls.
Mann made 14 stops for the Saints, while Jack Williams made 10 for the Continentals.
Both teams finished with 24 shots on goal, while SLU picked up 33 ground balls to Hamilton's 30.
St. Lawrence improved to 12-6 on the season, while Hamilton closed out their 2026 campaign at 9-8.Â
The Saints advance to the third round of the tournament and will play No. 3 Babson, tomorrow afternoon at MacDowell Field. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
