St. Lawrence University women's rowing head coach Nick Hughes is pleased to announce the hiring of Mikayla Thomas as an assistant coach for the 2017-18 season.

A 2017 graduate of St. Lawrence University with a degree in geology and a four-year student-athlete, Thomas will serve as the assistant for the women's rowing program.

"We're excited to have Mikayla rejoin our program in her new role as assistant coach," said Hughes. "Her desire to stay with us is a testament to her deep, abiding passion for rowing and commitment to St. Lawrence and our team."

During the 2017 spring season Thomas helped the women's varsity eight beat Skidmore by nearly 30 seconds in the Saints season opener at Ithaca. She also helped the varsity eight row to a third-place finish in the Liberty League Championships with a time of eight minutes and 16.05 seconds.

In addition, Thomas also rowed in the varsity eight at the NIRC Championships, which improved to second place in the third final with a time of 7:08.965. The Saints finished 12th in the team title at the championships.

"As a rower and student, Mikayla demonstrated daily her industry, insight, and high expectations of herself and others, said Hughes. "Those skills will serve her and our program well as our new assistant."

As a senior captain, Thomas received All-Liberty League Team, NIRC Steward's All-Academic and Liberty League All-Academic honors during her final season as a student-athlete.
